Hey everyone- last chapter of my documentary The Space Between. There is some light at the end of the tunnel, I promise! And more funny interviews and pretty music. And some conclusions about life and being this age and where we go from here. Sort of. :)
Oh! And I should mention- you should stick around through the credits, coz they's got movin pitchers. That is to say, only the first 4 title cards are over black, the rest are superimposed over funny things people said. I find it amusing, and so might you.
And just because this is the last chapter in The Space Between doesn't mean we're going to let the site go untouched. Sarah has a whole lineup of short films, and I hope to begin working on a music video soon. Films, updates, ideas for projects and more to come... Huzzah for content.
Stay tuned! You're a valued member of our organization.
"You just want to get in a car and drive in a flaming thunderball hurricane out of fucking town, that's what you want to do, with a guitar right next to you on the seat, cause that's all you should fuckin need, you know? But it doesn't work that way... You can't quantify the rock&roll spirit."
Also, Okkervil River and semi-trucks and pretty lights.
This chapter is the most aesthetically pleasing thus far, I think; stick around to the end for the Okkervil and I think you won't regret it.
The last episode is less depressing, I promise! There's uplift, happiness, etc etc. I ended up separating Ch 3 and 4 as they stretched on a bit longer than I'd expected, but that just gives me more things to post on the site! The last chapter will be posted in a week, and will be the grand finale to this whole postmoderncrisisthing. If only the postmodern crisis ("postmodern crisis") could be resolved so easily, and with such a lovely soundtrack.
Don't forget- still looking for other filmmakers for submissions or collaboration!
Thought I'd take a week to let you enjoy Sarah's Xmas flick. Tis the season and all that.
But- enough glitter and good cheer. Time for some more existential crisis. Behold- the 2nd chapter of my pretentious artsy flick The Space Between. It didn't really divide up very well into 10-minute YouTubeable sections, so this chapter includes more Sarah/Me time than interview time, but rest assured that the opposite will then be true of the final installment, coming next week to a laptop near you.
This week- love, disappointment, thwarted expectations, babies, monogamy, and more.
Coming up next week- car chases, party scenes, and more deep thoughts by your favorite people. Stay tuned for the big finale... you've made it through this much.
Also- we're looking to expand the site sometime in the near(ish) future to include other local independent filmmakers. If you have a short film or know someone who does, let us know! The future is coming- do you have your coat?
I know it's been a while since I last posted a new movie here; things have been awfully crazy with life and death and European vacations and conferences and grad school applications and my lord I'm good at making my life complicated, and when I'm not covering it properly, fate steps in.
BUT! Your long wait is over. Chapter 1 of my new film, a documentary I had tentatively titled "Amy's Pretentious Artsy Flick" and have now officially titled "The Space Between," is ready to post. I've been interviewing kids left and right (and by left and right, I mean about 8 people) so even if you're not into the artsy bits (heh, into my artsy bits) then hopefully you'll have fun watching our friends say profound things.
In case this is your first time on this site, here's my first (and so far, best) attempt at filmmaking: One Knight Stand(s), my silly fun zombie reality tv show. We can't really watch it anymore due to certain absurdly tragic twists of the timespace continuum, but if you haven't experienced or aren't aware of the loss to which I refer, you should watch the movie and enjoy!
Cause it's funny. :)
So after this zombie flick, I decided it was time to do something a little deeper and more important with my filmmaking. Hence, a documentary about what it's like to be 24. What it's like to graduate from college and cope with the fact that the real world is much harder and less hospitable to dreams than we thought when we were younger. It's about a half hour long total, but I'm still in the middle of editing it, so here's the first chapter.
A note: For some reason I haven't been able to edit out the little blip of my voice before Dave's first interview. I know it's there. It's some editing glitch I haven't been able to solve (it doesn't happen in iMovie)... working on it.
A second note: Technology has been a serious limitation in this project. The buzzing background noises, the shaky camera, the questionable speed at which the zoom does its zoomthing. Luckily, my parents and Vince are chipping in for a brand new digital camcorder and these problems will be resolved for the next project. I'm excited... mmm presents.
