THE STORY OF THE SPINNING GYRE

For those of you with no attention span, watch this video. It is pretty much all you need to know.

Now, if you want to know more...

The Spinning Gyre Production House was founded by Sarah Hesch and Amy Thorstenson in early 2009.  We first met in 2003 as freshman year roommates at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. A few months later we began our artistic collaboration when we founded the Artistic Masturbation Independent Theatre Company, a troupe dedicated to bringing student-written, student-produced film to the Lawrence campus.

After we graduated, we both eventually found our way to Madison, where we took up our collaboration once again, this time focusing on digital video instead of live theatre. Over the next few years we produced a webseries (The Bod Squad, 2010), a short film (Disconnected, 2011) and a feature film (The Worm and the Poodle, 2011), as well as several other short web videos.

In addition to attending Lawrence, Sarah Hesch graduated from Madison Media Institute in May 2011 with a degree in Video Motion Graphics. A few months later, Amy began her studies in the Writing for the Stage and Screen MFA Program at Northwestern Universtiy in nearby Evanston, Illinois. She is set to graduate in spring of 2013.

Most recently, The Spinning Gyre participated in the Madison 48 Film Festival for the first time. Our film, "A Fairly Normal Love Story," went on to win Best Use of Character and Genre, Best Writing and was the runner up for audience choice. This was our first real event in Madison's greater film community, and it we couldn't have been happier with how things worked out.

Stay tuned, people, because we are just getting started.
